What are Dentures?

When you have multiple missing teeth, it can impact your self-confidence and your oral health by shifting your remaining teeth out of place. Dentures consist of artificial teeth that rest on a pink acrylic base. They're popular for their natural appearance and can be secured with suction, adhesive, metal clasps, or dental implants.

Determining Which Option is Right for You

Our practice is pleased to offer three primary forms of dentures to meet your unique dental needs. During your initial visit, we'll determine how many teeth you need to have replaced and which of our restorative options fits your smile best. Afterward, we'll craft your dentures in our office to help make the entire process more convenient for you. Our denture offerings include:

Full Dentures: Full dentures, also called complete dentures, are intended to replace all the teeth in an arch. They consist of porcelain or ceramic teeth placed into a pink acrylic base to mirror your smile's natural appearance and feel. An additional benefit of complete dentures is that they can be removed so that cleaning is a simple and easy process.

Partial Dentures: If you still have remaining natural teeth, partial dentures may be your ideal solution. Our Houston partial dentures are made of porcelain or ceramic teeth and a body-safe acrylic base like complete dentures. However, they aren't meant to replace every tooth and can comfortably sit next to your remaining teeth for a natural appearance. Like complete dentures, partial dentures are removable, making it easy to clean and care for them.

Implant-Supported Dentures: Implant-supported dentures are anchored to your jawbone for a secure and comfortable fit. This form of denture uses six to eight implants to help restore your smile. Unlike traditional dentures, they're not removable, and you can treat them like natural teeth when eating or cleaning them.

Dentures FAQs

It's normal to have questions about our denture services. Our staff is here to answer your questions and provide you with the information you need to make educated decisions about your smile. Some frequently asked questions about dentures include:

Can I clean my dentures like natural teeth?

We recommend that you clean your dentures after each meal. However, you should remove your dentures and rinse them in cool water. We recommend that you soak your dentures and even use a denture cleaner at night. It's crucial that you not let your dentures dry as it can warp your dentures' form and prevent them from fitting in your mouth.

Immediately following the placement of your dentures, we strongly encourage you to eat soft foods. We recommend you continue with this dietary restriction until you feel comfortable eating with your dentures. From there, you can eat just about anything.

Pronouncing certain words may take practice once you've received your dentures. It's also normal for dentures to occasionally move when you laugh, cough, or smile. If you experience a severe impact on your speech, contact us, and we'll carefully look over them.
